Inspector Notes

A renewal inspection was conducted on February 23, 2023 from 8:50 A.M.-11:30 A.M. There were seven children present, ranging in ages from three years to five years of age, with three staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of five child records and six staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-130-A
Based on interview and review of children records, the center failed to obtain immunizations before the first day of attendance.

Evidence:
1. Child #1's immunizations were dated 11/10/2022. First day of attendance for Child #1 was 11/09/2022.
2. Child #3's immunizations were dated 02/07/2023. First day of attendance for Child #3 was 01/12/2023.
3. Child #5's immunizations were dated 02/07/2023. First day of attendance for Child #5 was 01/30/2023.
4. Staff #1 verified the dates of enrollment and the dates on the immunization records.
Plan of Correction: As new children are enrolled into the center administration will ensure that they do not begin attendance until immunization have been received.
Standard 8VAC20-780-240-A
Based on interview and review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that the Virginia Department of Education sponsored orientation course shall be completed within 90 calendar days of employment.

Evidence:
1. Staff #2's orientation training was dated 02/08/2023. Date of hire for Staff #2 was 09/26/2022.
2. Staff #3's orientation training was dated 02/18/2023. Date of hire for Staff #3 was 09/26/2022.
3. Staff #1 verified the date of hire for Staff #2 and #3 and the dates on the orientation certificates.
Plan of Correction: As new staff are hired administration will ensure the orientation training is completed in the correct timeframe. Administration was under the impression the training was only for Lead teachers and not all staff.
Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that children washed their hands as required.

Evidence:
1. In the Pre-K Classroom after the children finished snack they did not wash their hands with soap and water or a disposable wipe. The children left the snack table and went to the rug area and got a book to look at.
2. Staff # 4 verified that the children did not wash their hands with soap and water or a disposable wipe after snack.
Plan of Correction: Administration will review handwashing standards with staff.
