This inspection included: document review, tour of the facility, interviews, and observations.

Violations

2
Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a safe condition. Unsafe conditions shall include, but not be limited to, chipped or peeling paint.

Peeling paint was observed on the walls in classroom #1 and #2 at a location within reach of the children.
Plan of Correction: Our classrooms are maintained with a standard of beauty in mind. In this specific case a wall mounted frame was removed and the command strip stripped away some paint. This has been fixed since.
Standard 8VAC20-780-500-B
The diapering area shall have a sink with running warm water and a nonabsorbent surface for diapering or changing shall be used.

For children younger than three years, this surface shall be a changing table or countertop designated for changing. The diapering surface shall be cleaned with soap and at least room temperature water and sanitized after each use.

In Classroom #1 and #4, the sink in the diapering areas used for handwashing did not produce warm running water.

In Classroom #1 and #4, it was observed that the nonabsorbent surface for diapering or changing was placed on the floor instead of a changing table or countertop designed for changing. The children in both rooms were under 3 years of age.

In Classroom #1, after use, a staff member was observed only spraying the changing pad with soapy water before placing it in the bathroom for storage. No sanitizer was used in the process.
Plan of Correction: We had hot running water in all the classrooms and are looking to fix the problem.

Previous DOE licensing officer said that our arrangement for changing met the requirements. Per the new requirements, we will be adding a bench to place the diaper changing pad on.

Staff members have been reminded to follow hygiene protocols per our policy
