Inspector Notes

An announced initial inspection visit and home tour was conducted on 11/02/2022. At the time of inspectors' arrival there were 3 preschool aged children totaling 6 points in care with the provider. Children were observed interacting with the provider, hand washing, and engaging in outdoor play. A sample of 3 children's records and the provider record were reviewed. The provider reported that there have been no injuries and medications are not being administered at this time. Areas of noncompliance are identified on the violation notice and were discussed with the provider in an exit meeting at the conclusion of this inspection.

Standard 8VAC20-800-240-A
Based on observation it was determined the provider did not ensure that all furnishings of the family day home, were maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
There was an unanchored 6' bookcase in the office that rocked when pulled on. Children have access to this area when in care.
Plan of Correction: Provider will anchor the bookcase to the wall in the office.
Standard 8VAC20-800-350-E
Based on measurement and observation it was determined the provider did not ensure that hot water at taps available to children were maintained within a range of 105?F to 120?F.
Evidence:
The temperature of the hot water in the kitchen and bathroom measured at 137.8 degrees Fahrenheit. These taps are accessible to children in care.
Plan of Correction: Provider will lower the temperature on the hot water heater so that the water temperature is no higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Standard 8VAC20-800-60-B
Based on record review it was determined the provider did not ensure the record for each child contained all of the required information.
Evidence:
1. The record for child #1 did not contain the first date of attendance and medical insurance policy number.
2. The record for child #2 did not contain the addresses and phone numbers for the parent's place of employment and medical insurance policy number.
3. The record for child #3 did not contain the medical insurance policy number.
Plan of Correction: Provider will request the missing information from parents at pick up.
