Inspector Notes

An unannounced on-site monitoring inspection was conducted on 04/24/2024. There were 42 children, ages 6 months-5 years, and 10 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector observed the following: free choice activities, outside time, circle time and lunch. A total of 5 children?s records and 5 staff records, were reviewed. The inspector arrived at 10:30 AM and departed at 12 :30 PM.

Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that children washed their hands before and after eating a meal or snack.

Evidence:

Three groupings of children were observed eating lunch without washing hands prior to eating lunch.
Plan of Correction: Staff will make sure in the future that all hands are washed prior to eating.
Standard 8VAC20-780-500-B
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all diapering standards.

Evidence:

The diaper changing pad in the toddler room had several tears. The tears make the changing pad no longer nonabsorbent.
Plan of Correction: The changing pad will be replaced and will be monitored.

Based on record review and interviews, the
center failed to ensure that all shelter in place drills were practiced a minimum of twice a year.

Evidence:

The center did not have documentation of two shelter in place drill for 2023.
Plan of Correction: This year two shelter in place drills will be practiced.

Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that staff sat with children during meal times.

Evidence:

Staff did not sit with the children while eating lunch.
Plan of Correction: Staff will be reminded to sit with children during meal times.

Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all children did not drink or eat while walking around.

Evidence:

Observed one toddler walking from lunch to the classroom drinking from the bottle.
Plan of Correction: Staff will be reminded that children are not allowed to eat or drink while walking.
