Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted beginning at 10:45 a.m. and ending at 12 p.m. There were seven children in care ages 13 months through10 years old for a total of 12 points. Children were observed engaged in free play activities that included building with manipulatives, in the infant/toddler area playing and reading books.
Childcare areas and supplies and materials were observed.

Posted information was reviewed. There is a complete first aid kit, a battery operated radio and flashlight. Training hours were reviewed. Five children's records, one provider record reviewed.

Based on observation, potentially poisonous substances were not stored in an area inaccessible to children. Evidence: A can of Copenhagen long cut tobacco was observed on a low shelf, approximately four feet high.

Standard 8VAC20-800-480-B
Based on observation, equipment and materials used by children was not appropriate to the age, size and ability of all children in care. Evidence: A toddler was observed accessing the school agers manipulatives that the school agers were actively building with. The toddler then put the choking hazard sized manipulative into their mouth.
