Inspector Notes

A 2 month monitoring inspection was initiated on 3/16/2023 and concluded on 3/16/2023. There were48 children directly supervised by 9 staff members. Children were observed during music and movement, connect four game and bathroom breaks and handwashing. The physical plant, 3 child records, 4 staff records, medications, evacuation drills, and emergency supplies were inspected. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Standard 8VAC20-780-240-C
Based on a review of staff records and staff interview, staff have not completed all the requirements of orientation training prior to working alone with children and no later then 7 days of the day of assuming job responsibility.
Evidence: The following new staff have not taken the training in recognizing child abuse and neglect and the legal requirements for reporting suspected abuse prior to working alone with children. All staff were observed in the classroom supervising children this day.
Staff #1, hired 1/26/2023, staff #2 hired 1/3/2023, staff #3 hired 1/20/2023 and staff #4 hired 1/30/2023.
Plan of Correction: Staff will take the Child Abuse and Neglect training and maintain the certificate in the staff's record.
Standard 8VAC20-780-245-J-1
Based on a review of children medications and staff trainings, there is not a staff member present at all times who has completed the medication administration training (MAT).
Evidence: There are 2 children who require medication for emergencies, there is only 1 staff present from 7:00 am until 11:30 am that has MAT training. There is no staff present with the MAT training from 11:30 am until closing at 6:00 pm.
Plan of Correction: Administration will have staff take MAT training so there is at least one person at all times trained during center hours.

Based on a review of staff records and staff interview, there is not a staff trained in CPR and First Aid certification in each classroom.
Evidence: Currently there is no staff with CPR and first aid certification in the toddler and fours classroom.
Plan of Correction: Management will have staff take CPR and First Aid training so there is at least 1 person trained in each classroom.
