Inspector Notes

A non-mandated monitoring inspection was conducted on March 27, 2023 from 11:10 A.M.-2:40 P.M. There were 70 children present, ranging in ages from two months to three years of age, with 20 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of seven child records and seven staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-290-A-3
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all electrical outlets shall have protective covers.

Evidence:
1. In Room #4 there was an electrical outlet below the phone in the classroom that was missing a protective cover.
2. In Room #6 there was an electrical outlet to the left of the sink with the long counter that was missing a protective cover.
3. In Room #10 there was an electrical outlet to the left of the sink with the long counter that was missing a protective cover.
4. In Room #3 there was an electrical outlet on the wall next to the dramatic play area that was missing a protective cover.
Plan of Correction: Staff will complete a daily safety checklist form with quality control checks.
Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that staff washed their hands with soap and running water before feeding or helping children with feeding.

Evidence:
In Classroom #6, Staff #1 handed Staff #2 a bottle to feed Child #1. Staff #2 did not wash her hands with soap and running water before feeding Child #1.
Plan of Correction: Staff will receive updated training on handwashing procedures. Handwashing posters will be posted appropriately. Preservice training as well as a qualify control checks will be completed throughout the year.
