Areas Reviewed

Technical assistance was provided in the following areas;
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Inspector Notes

An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was initiated and completed on 11/4/2024. The on-site inspection began at 10:00am and ended at 12:30pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above to include standards found out of compliance during the previous inspection. There were 33 children present and 9 staff. The inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff records on-site. This inspection included document review, tour of the facility, interviews and observations. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Please complete the plan of correction (POC) and date to be corrected sections for each violation cited on the violation notice. Specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Submit your POC within five (5) business days from today, which will be the close of business on 11/20/2024. A POC submitted after this date will not appear on the public website.

Standard 22.1-289.035-B-3
The center must request a search of the central registry prior to the employee's first day of employment. The central registry check for Staff #1 was mailed one week after the employee?s first day of employment.
Plan of Correction: Central Registry will be sent off before hire with proof in employee file.
Standard 8VAC20-780-245-L
There shall always be at least one staff member on duty who has obtained within the last three years instruction in performing the daily health observation of children. During the inspection there was no one on duty with current daily health observation training.
Plan of Correction: Have 2-3 staff members take course and make sure one is always on-site.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Hazardous substances must be in a locked place that prevents access by children. In the art classroom, a can of interior house paint and spray adhesive with keep out of reach of children warning labels on them, were in an unlocked cabinet.
Plan of Correction: Make sure all closets with hazardous materials are locked at all times.
Standard 8VAC20-780-540-E
One working battery-operated flashlight on each floor of the building that is used by children. The flashlight available during the inspection was not working.
Plan of Correction: Flashlight has been replaced and is working.
Standard 8VAC20-780-550-D
The center shall implement a monthly practice evacuation drill. There was no documentation of a practice evacuation drill conducted for June 2024.
Plan of Correction: Monthly Fire Drills will take place each month and be logged correctlv.
