Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 9/20/2023 from 9:25 am to 12:01 pm. There were 21 children in care, ages seven weeks to four years, in three groups under the care of five staff. The Licensing Inspector reviewed four children?s records, six staff records, and other program records. The children were observed playing indoors and getting ready for lunch.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-70
Based on staff record review, the center failed to have documentation showing that references for a new staff person were checked before employment.

EVIDENCE:
The record for Staff 3, who started 9/12/2023, had no documentation to show that references were checked.
Plan of Correction: Written documentation was not done because Staff 1 and 2 have known the new employee for years. Documentation of reference checks have since been added to the staff record, and from now on, this will be done whenever new staff is hired.
