Inspector Notes

An announced initial inspection was conducted on 5/22/2024 from 12:00pm-1:00pm. There were no children present. The inspector verified the manufacture dates for 6 cribs. Smoke detectors, fire extinguisher, first aid items, and age appropriate materials were observed. The Inspector reviewed 3 caregiver/household member's records, and the Emergency Preparedness Plan submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. The information gathered during the inspection determined violations with applicable standards or law. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Based on record review, the family day home did not obtain a sex offender registry check and a search of the child abuse and neglect registry from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years for one household member.

Evidence:
1. Household member #1 has resided outside of the state of Virginia within the past 5 years.
2. The record for Household Member #1 did not contain documentation of the results of a sex offender registry check and the results of a search of the child abuse and neglect registry from the state of Maryland.
Plan of Correction: The provider will submit the required background check requests within 10 business days.
Standard 8VAC20-800-240-A
Based on observation, areas inside the family day home were not maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
1. Peeling paint was observed on a wall in the nap room, accessible to children.
2. Cracked/broken wood was observed at the bottom of the door to the nap room.
Plan of Correction: Provider will have the door and wall of the nap room repaired.
