Inspector Notes

An initial subsidy health and safety inspection (SHSI) was conducted. Subsidy standards that are not covered in voluntary registration standards were reviewed during this SHSI. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

All the required information should be included in children's records.
The record for Child #1 (enrolled for less than a month) did not contain all the required information.
Plan of Correction: The provider will make sure all records are kept up to date at all times, moving forward.
Standard 8VAC20-790-270-A
Potentially poisonous substances, materials, and supplies such as cleaning agents shall be stored away from food.
There was a cleaning spray stored by a kitchen sink, in close proximity to where food was being prepared.
Plan of Correction: From this date on there will be no poisonous materials near any food. It will be stored away.
Standard 8VAC20-790-390-E
The diapering surface shall be nonabsorbent.
The diaper changing surface was covered with a sheet, which was not nonabsorbent.
Plan of Correction: From this date on, the provider will be using a non-absorbent changing pad at all times.
Standard 8VAC20-790-390-F
Soiled disposable diapers and wipes shall be disposed of in a leak-proof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the caregiver's hand nor the soiled diaper or wipe touches the exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.
The home did not have a storage system that is foot-operated or can be used in a way that the caregiver's hand or soiled diaper does not touch the exterior surface during diaper disposal.
Plan of Correction: Soiled diapers and wipes will be stored in a hands-free trash can until properly disposed of, moving forward.
