Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate hybrid protocol.

A renewal inspection was initiated on 02/15/2022 and concluded on 02/15/2022. The director submitted requested documentation to the inspector on 02/04/2022 for review and the inspector conducted an unannounced inspection on-site on 02/15/2022 from approximately 11:00 am to 12:40 pm. On 02/15/2022, there were 30 children present, ranging in ages from six months to five years, with six staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of two child records and two staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, the center did not ensure hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:

1. A canister of sanitizer/disinfectant was observed unlocked, sitting on the top of the wall cabinet in the pre-k classroom on the second floor.
2. Multiple containers of cleaning materials and a canister of insecticide was observed unlocked, on top of a shelf, out of reach of children in the Office.
Plan of Correction: The Director removed all the cleaning materials and placed them in a locked closet. Staff were told cleaning materials would remain in the locked closet and the key was placed inaccessible to children but available to staff.
