Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The inspector was on site from 11:15am to approximately 2:50pm. There were a total of 148 children in care in the direct care of 19 staff members. During the inspection, the children and staff were observed participating in a variety of activities. Staff were observed having positive interactions with the children. All areas of the facility used by the children were inspected. The center is equipped with toys and supplies and items were available to the children. The required postings were reviewed and found to be in compliance. Medication is administered when required and medications were reviewed. During the inspection, ten children's records and ten staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program

Standard 8VAC20-780-160-A
Based on a review of ten staff records and interview, the center did not ensure one staff submitted documentation of a negative tuberculosis (TB) screening within the required timeframe.

Evidence: 1) The TB screening in the record of Staff #3, employed 10/31/22, was completed on 11/04/22. 2) During interview, a member of management stated the center was unaware of the updated requirements and Staff #3 did not provide the TB screening results prior to employment.

Documentation of the screening shall be submitted at the time of employment and prior to coming into contact with children.
Plan of Correction: Moving forward, staff will submit documentation of a negative TB screening or test prior to employment. The results won't be more than 30 days prior to employment.

Based on a review of ten staff records, the center did not ensure one staff member completed The Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course within 90 calendar days of employment.

Evidence: The certificate of completion of the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course in the record of Staff #3, employed 10/31/22, was dated 02/07/23, exceeding 90 calendar day of employment.
Plan of Correction: Moving forward, management will add a note on calendar and check with staff to see progress of the orientation training to ensure it is completed within 90 calendar days of employment.
