Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was initiated on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, and concluded on January 11, 2024. On January 10, the inspector was on site from 9:45am to approximately 1:00pm. There were a total of 116 children in care in the direct care of 17 staff members. During the inspection, the children and staff were observed participating in a variety of activities. Staff were observed having positive interactions with the children. All areas of the facility used by the children were inspected. The center is equipped with toys and supplies and items were available to the children. The required postings were reviewed and found to be in compliance. Medication is administered when required and medications were reviewed. Ten children?s records and ten staff records were reviewed. Additional documentation was submitted to the inspector on January 11, 2024.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

(Repeat Violation) Based on a review of ten staff records, the center did not ensure two staff members completed The Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course within 90 calendar days of employment.

Evidence: 1) The certificate of completion of the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course in the record of Staff #1, employed 08/17/23, was dated 01/11/24.
2) The certificate of completion of the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course in the record of Staff #4, employed 07/17/23, was dated 10/30/23.
Plan of Correction: Per the Center: Moving forward, management will be checking in monthly with new staff to check status of training. Staff will have to have training completed within one month of employment.
