Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 10/24/2023.There were 80 children present with 14 staff supervising and 2 administrators. The children were observed during outside time, getting ready for lunch, reading time, and during nap time. A total of 8 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. The inspection started at 11:15 am and concluded at 1:25 pm.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: Staff in Children's House 1 confirmed that there was 1 bottle of hand soap on the sink in the children's bathroom that was labeled "keep out of reach of children" and "caution".
Plan of Correction: The soap bottles will be removed and new soap will be ordered

Based on observation and staff interview the center did not ensure if hazardous substances are not kept in original containers, the substitute containers shall clearly indicate their contents.

Evidence: The Children's House 1 bathroom, the Toddler 2 bathroom, and the Toddler 1 bathroom each had 1 bottle of what the staff confirmed was hand soap sitting out on the sink. Neither bottle was labeled. Staff showed the licensing inspector the original container the soap came from and confirmed that it was labeled "keep out of reach of children" and "caution".

Based on observation and staff interview, the center did not ensure there shall be a posted daily schedule that allows for flexibility as children's needs require.
Evidence: Staff confirmed there was no daily schedule posted in the Children's House 3 classroom.
Plan of Correction: A copy of the schedule will be posted in the classroom.

Based on observation and staff interview the center did not ensure the current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions was dated.

Evidence: Staff in the Toddler 2 room confirmed that the allergy list was not dated.
