Inspector Notes

An unannounced complaint inspection was initiated on October 12, 2023 and completed on October 17, 2023, regarding concerns of Administration and Special Services. During the inspection the following were completed: interviews with center staff, a review of records/documentation and classroom observations. The preponderance of the evidence gathered during the investigation does support the allegation related to Administration, therefore the complaint is determined to be valid.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

If you have any questions regarding this inspection please contact inspector, Christine Mahan at 757-404-0568.

Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-40-M
Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure the center shall maintain, in a way that is accessible to all staff who work with children, a current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions. This list shall be dated and kept confidential in each room or area where children are present.

Evidence: Child #1 has a food sensitivity (milk) and that was not listed on the center?s the allergy / sensitivity food list. The list had not been updated, as the most recent list for staff to review was dated 9-25-2023. Child #1`s first date of attendance was 10-10-2023.
Plan of Correction: Our policy is to immediately inform the entire team any time there is a change to the allergy food preference sheet.. We also then update said "allergy / food preference "sheet . reprint it and distribute it to each classroom as well as at the kitchen, ALL of these procedures DID , in fact take place on the day the child in question started (10/10/23). As we said during the interview process of the complaint inspection, the sheet was updated and printed it was just not yet hung on the wall. Inspector was shown the already printed "allergy / food preference" sheet and saw it was dated 10/10./23. it is disheartening and ironic as a director with a great team who doesn't cut corners and does follow the given rules, to have a disgruntled former employee (who refused to follow the rules and always s cut corners) call in a false complaint and it have an effect on our small business.
