Inspector Notes

An unannounced complaint inspection was initiated in the center on on January 4, 2024 and completed on January 9, 2024 regarding concerns of Physical Plant and Special Care Provisions/Emergencies.
During the inspection the following were completed: interviews with administrative staff center staff, a review of records/documentation and observations of the infant and toddler classrooms' physical plant .

The preponderance of the evidence gathered during the investigation does support the allegation related to Physical Plant and therefore, the complaint is determined to be valid.
The inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-C
Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure that inside areas occupied by children, the temperature shall be maintained no lower than 68?F.

Evidence: During the inspection the thermostat in the infant room and the digital thermometer both displayed a temperature reading of 63.
Plan of Correction: We close the classroom and looked for a company to replace HVAC as soon as it stopped working. As it was the holidays, the soonest we could get it scheduled is Jan 9 (pushed to Jan 10 due to weather) . We purchased space heater to pace in the ONE room that was affected mad plugged in as many as our electrical system would hold. Parents were kept informed and were given option to bring children.
