Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 4/13/2023. There were 36 children, ages 2 years-4 years, 9 staff and 2 administrative staff present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, personnel, environment and equipment, care of children, preventing the spread of disease, emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 children?s records and 3 staff records were reviewed. The children were observed during snack and center time. The inspector arrived for the inspection at 9:10am and departed the center at 10:59 am.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Based on observation and discussion with staff, the center failed to ensure each building that was built before 2015 and that houses a child day program that is licensed that serves preschool-age children shall be equipped with at least one carbon monoxide detector.

Evidence: Licensing staff did not observe a carbon monoxide detector. The program director stated that ?a carbon monoxide detector has not been purchased.?
Plan of Correction: Provider has purchased a carbon monoxide detector.
Standard 8VAC20-780-160-C
Based on the review of three staff?s records, the center failed to ensure that a follow up tuberculosis screening for staff members was obtained.

Evidence: Staff #3 was hired on 1/16/2023 and on the day of the inspection the most recent tuberculosis screening expired on 4/5/2023.
Plan of Correction: Provider will ensure an up to date tuberculosis test is completed.
