Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted March 4, 2024 between the hours of 9:30am and 12:10pm. There were 78 children directly supervised by 14 staff. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 7 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, centers, playing outside, and diapering. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, the center did not ensure all areas of the center, inside, were maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
The play kitchen set in the Two's classroom was missing a handle on the cabinet door under the play sink and a metal screw was exposed.
Plan of Correction: The play kitchen set will be removed and trashed.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances were kept in a locked place.
Evidence:
In the Twos classroom, two (2) multi-surface cleaners and one (1) disinfectant spray was observed under the changing table in an unlocked cabinet accessible to children.
Plan of Correction: place a child lock on cabinet doors
Standard 8VAC20-780-520-A
Based on observation, over the counter skin products were kept beyond their expiration dates.
Evidence:
There were two (2) expired diaper creams in the bin under the diaper changing table in the Twos classroom.
Plan of Correction: The products will be sent home or discarded.
Standard 8VAC20-780-520-C
Based on observation, diaper cream was observed not labeled and accessible to children.
Evidence:
1) In the Twos classroom, two (2) diaper creams were observed not labeled with a child's name.
2) In the Twos classroom nineteen (19) diaper creams were observed in an unlocked cabinet under the changing table that is accessible to children.
Plan of Correction: diaper creams will be labeled and locked.
Standard 8VAC20-780-60-A
Based on record review, the center did not ensure that each child record contained the address of two designated people to call in an emergency if a parent cannot be reach.
Evidence:
1) Child #4 had one (1) listed emergency contact in their record.
2) Child #6 had one (1) listed emergency contact in their record.
Plan of Correction: We will contact families asking for additional emergency contacts.
