Inspector Notes

An unannounced inspection was conducted on December 5, 2023, from 9:30 AM until approximately 10:50 AM. There were 7 children present with 2 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 4 staff records were reviewed. Staff records were reviewed remotely.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-260-A
Based on record review and interview, the center did not ensure that an annual fire inspection report from the appropriate fire official having jurisdiction was updated.
Evidence:
1. The fire inspection posted was dated for 5/31/2022.
2. Staff # stated that a fire inspection had been completed but did not have the inspection report.
Plan of Correction: Fire inspection was conducted on May 25, 2023, didn't receive paperwork.
Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, the center did not ensure areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition.

Evidence:
1. The wood paneling on the wall under the window and on the wall near the door in the toddler classroom, had 2 nails protruding which could snag skin or clothing.
Plan of Correction: Will remove nails and secure panels against the walls.
Standard 8VAC20-780-40-H
Based on record review and interview, the center failed to provide evidence of current liability insurance.
Evidence:
1. The liability insurance that was provided had an expiration date of 9/17/2022.
2. Staff # stated that the liability insurance had been renewed but she had not been sent a copy of the new policy.
Plan of Correction: Will check the status of current policy with administrator.
