Inspector Notes
An unannounced monitoring inspection was initiated on July 8, 2024 and completed on August 28, 2024 in response to a self-report received by the licensing office on 7/08/2024 relating to behavioral guidance. The inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 1 staff record on-site. This inspection included document review and interviews.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Please complete the plan of correction (POC) and date to be corrected sections for each violation cited on the violation notice. Specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected.
Standard 8VAC20-780-400-B
Behavioral guidance shall be constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate, and shall be intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts. In the toddler room on July 1, 2024, Child 2 accidentally spilled milk on another child's arm. Staff 1 and Staff 2 saw Staff 3 pour milk from a sippy cup onto Child 2's head and heard Staff 3 say, "You don't like that, do you?"
Plan of Correction: Staff person no longer here (7/2/2024). Training on behavioral guidance will be given to remaining staff on 9/30/2024.
Standard 8VAC20-780-410-1
Physical punishment, striking a child, roughly handling are forbidden actions. During a diaper change in the toddler room on 7/1/2024, Staff 1 and Staff 2 saw Staff 3 hit Child 3 in the face and on the bare stomach with a diaper wipe. On 7/1/2024, Child 1 and Child 2 were in a play tunnel. Staff 3 picked up one side of the play tunnel and the two children fell out the other side on top of each other. Child 1 hit the side of his face on the floor.
Plan of Correction: Staff person no longer works here (7/2/2024). Training for proper classroom management will be reviewed with all staff on 9/30/2024.
