Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on April 4, 2021 and concluded on April 4, 2021. The director/provider or in-charge person was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 67 children present and nine staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed four children?s records and three staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Based on review of staff records and interview, the facility did not obtain out of state child abuse and neglect search request by the 30th day of employment, an out of state sex offender registry prior to the first day of employment and a out of state criminal history name check prior to hire for each state the individual has resided in the past five years.

Evidence:

1. Staff #3, hired 09/08/2020, had documentation of a completed out of state sex offender registry check dated 03/22/2021 exceeding the requirement to obtain prior to hire.
2. Staff #3, hired 09/08/2020, had documentation of a completed out of state child abuse and neglect search dated 04/06/2021, exceeding the requirement to obtain within 30 days of hire.
3. The record of staff #3, hired 09/08/2020, did not have documentation of an out of state criminal history name check, required prior to hire.
4. The administrator stated staff #3 had lived out side the state of Virginia in the past five years and that the out of state background checks had not been completed in the required time frame.
Plan of Correction: Per the administrator: We will obtain the missing out of state criminal history name search and going forward ensure out of state background checks are obtained in the required time frames.
