During the inspection, the inspector reviewed the areas listed above to include standards found out of compliance during the previous inspection. Unless otherwise noted as a violation within this inspection report, the provider was in compliance with the standards reviewed. If there were any serious injuries or fatalities related to a violation, the details will be included in the description of the violation.

Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was initiated on 09/26/2024 and completed on 10/08/2024 in response to a self-report received by the licensing office on 09/18/2024 relating to behavioral guidance and forbidden actions. The inspector reviewed two children?s records and two staff records on-site.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Please complete the plan of correction (POC) and date to be corrected sections for each violation cited on the violation notice. Specify how the violation will be or has been corrected. Submit your POC within five (5) business days from today, which will be the close of business on 11/08/2024. A POC submitted after this date will not appear on the public website.

Standard 8VAC20-780-400-B
Behavioral guidance shall be constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate, and shall be intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts.
1. It was reported that on 09/16/2024 staff A struck child A on the back of the head to prevent the child from continuing to climb on the sink.
2. It was reported that on 09/16/2024 staff A requested that staff B spank child A to prevent them from climbing on the sink.
Plan of Correction: Teacher is no longer employed with KinderCare. All staff retrained on appropriate child guidance on 09/18/2024.
Standard 8VAC20-780-410-1
The following acts are forbidden: physical punishment, striking a child, roughly handling or shaking a child, restricting movement through binding or tying, forcing a child to assume an uncomfortable position, or exercise as punishment.
It was reported through interviews that on 09/16/24, Staff A struck Child A (age 3 years) on the back of the head.
Plan of Correction: Teacher is no longer employed with KinderCare. All staff retrained on appropriate child guidance on 09/18/2024.
