Inspector Notes

A mandated monitoring inspection was conducted on June 17, 2024 from 2:30 P.M.-4:45 P.M. There were 52 children present, ranging in ages from one year five months to twelve, with twelve staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of five child records and four staff records were reviewed.

Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Based on review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that documentation of a negative tuberculosis screening was completed at the time of employment and prior to coming into contact with children.

Evidence:
1. Staff #3's date of hire was 05/03/2024 and start date was 05/17/2024. The tuberculosis documentation in the record was dated 05/22/2024.
2. Administration verified the date of employment and start date for Staff #1 and the date on the tuberculosis screening.
Plan of Correction: Administration will review current hiring procedures and adjust to ensure that the tuberculosis screening is obtained in the required timeframe.
